What is SPOCO East?

Plomesgate CC relaunched the SPOCO (Sporting Courses) competition for the East District in 1998. Now in its second year being run by the current organisers, the aims of the competition are given below...

The competition is based on existing events being promoted in the East District, the idea being to try and encourage more participation in non dual carriageway type courses, the scoring system is based on placings, again taking the emphasis away from fast times. The scoring system is 120 points for 1st place, 119 for 2nd place, 118 for 3rd pace and so on down to 1 point for 120th place. In it’s purest form the SPOCO competition would consist only of sporting, i.e. hilly and/or technically demanding events promoted on minor roads. However, in order to have a wide choice of events and to try and cover events from all over our large district we have had to include some events which people may not describe as sporting, examples may be where courses use stretches of the A47 for example.

Prizes will be awarded at the end of the season to the best finishers overall and for various categories such as veterans, ladies, juniors and juveniles, all dependent on number of entries of course.

Anybody wishing to enter can do so by sending their name, address, phone number, club, age and/or date of birth and category along with the entry fee of £5, cheques should be made payable to SPOCO East. Riders can enter any time before May 31st, but only events ridden after they enter will count.
