got slightly lost |
After clearing the course of the majority of sand at Bromeswell, Butley and Chillesford, and with a wind that should have been favourable when out of the shelter of the forest and hedgerows, we were looking for some target times for the upcoming 30 mile Open event.
For what was a non-listed Club event, 19 riders was an excellent turnout. Mutterings at the start suggested a lap time of 35 minutes would be difficult to beat, and on the night the time of 37:01 by Matt does suggest a 30 time of 1h10m will be hard to achieve by the top riders at the Open. I think it is the rolling slopes from Butley that will prove to be the killer for most people.
Wojtek was unfortunate to puncture partway through the ride, but was still able to finish. Magnus managed to ignore the arrows and took a right turn off to Butley Low Corner, but recognised his error and got back on track quickly – well done for such a ride on a MTB. John Sanderson had a restart after his chain and gears decided to part company about 10 seconds after starting – this also gave him the opportunity to work out what the course was for the evening.
Next Thursday ride is next week (14th June) and is a normal 10 mile event (remember not to go off into the housing estate and follow the signs around the roundabout)
