Family Fun Day

The family day was a success again this year. About 15 cyclists and a few pedestrians made it out to the new Tateson pad in Brundish, North of Framlingham. The September weather was kind to us and the planned bridleway ride, followed by bbq, trampolining, swimming (well, splashing) and water fights were all vigorously indulged in. Junior editions of Hardwickes (and friend), Beaumonts, Tatesons, Nelsons and Figgitts all tore about and generally had a good time. Special mentions to the Beaumont boys for being impervious to cold during their hours in the pool and to Tony for his chipolatta-saving bbq-tending skills with improvised chopsticks. Thanks to everyone who came and made it such an enjoyable day!

September Club run

Tony Nelson, Mark Howlett, Jim Ingram, Valerio, Harry and Trevor set out from Framlingham. Trevor had devised a route taking us North West to Thorndon, but wasn't sure whether it would be too far as he was suffering from a bad back and Harry was along and was short of cycling miles.  As it turned out it was just right. The route ambled through Earl Soham, Kenton, Rishangles, Thorndon, then south via Wetherup Street, to the Stonhams and eventually Stonham Barns for coffee and cake. The return leg continued south to Coddenham, then back up to Gosbeck, Helmingham, Otley, Kettleburgh and Framlingham. The weather was a bit overcast and the cool air and miles eventually started to tell on Harry's legs, but he dug in and was happy to have done a good 40miles.

ODP Update

It was a long drive on the afternoon of Friday 23rd Sept for Becky and Trevor, all the way down to an outward bound centre about 30mins outside Newport, South Wales. Becky was being dropped off for a training camp, over the weekend, which involved a mixture of sprinters and endurance riders. Early Saturday morning the sprinters were called to a meeting where they were told this was no ordinary meeting but was in fact a selection camp for the Olympic Development Programme for the next "season", Oct 2005 to Oct 2006. After the announcement the sprinters jumped on their road bikes and cycled through the cold morning air to the velodrome, with plenty to discuss and be nervous about. The weekend went well for Becky, learning new tactics, riding races etc... She will find out whether she has gained re-selection after the National Senior Championships which are the first week in October.

Welcome Back

Many of you will remember Evert Wijnberg, who rode for Plomesgate a few years ago.  Well, Evert and Annelie are back in Suffolk and living in Martlesham.  Evert has recently enquired about joining Plomesgate again – welcome back.

Foxhall Track

The Friday evening sessions on the hot-rod track at Foxhall stadium are over for another year and what a good year it's been. The most riders we've ever had (I think), with riders of all ages and abilities, some superb performances and improvements from everyone and, most importantly, smiles all round.

In addition, we had some great publicity in the local paper, with somewonderful pictures of the youngsters in action.

Neil Fellingham (IBC) was first of the Foxhall young riders to race "away from home", when he joined a Plomesgate expedition to Eastway for a Ciclos Uno road race, where he acquitted himself well in the bunch.

He was then joined by a whole gaggle of Foxhall regulars at the Ixworth crits. The Youth race saw about 8 of "our" youngsters line up and saw Hugo Robinson (IBC) work hard in a break for 2nd place and his sister Hannah take 1st girl, with all the others giving it everything in front of the crowds on the tricky little circuit. The Junior/Senior race saw another handful of Foxhall riders taking part, but unfortunately unable to make an impact.

And, of course, the final "Open" for a lot of the Foxhall youngsters was our own grass-track event, where Andrew, Jack, Lewis and Josh dominated the U12 racing, despite Pete's best attempts to handicap them out of it!

Foxhall Rollers

Well, with the outdoor season at Foxhall over, it's time to move indoors. Yep, it's roller-time again. We have a new venue this year-we've moved out of the draughty, leaky old shed into the diner (above the first corner as you ride the track). It's clean, well-lit, warm and dry, so why not come along and see how fast you can pedal on the rollers?

To get to the diner, come into the stadium using the pit entrance (same as for the track sessions), but then turn right and follow the path up behind the bar until you reach the back of the turnstiles. You should then see the diner in front of you.

All are welcome - no experience necessary. The bikes are held when on the rollers, so even a sense of balance is optional! Please note that these sessions are not really suitable for riders under 9 or 10, as their smaller bikes won't safely fit on the rollers.

Track Champs

Eastern Division Track Champs at Welwyn

As there were only 5 women entered for the Women's Championship, the three events, sprint, pursuit and scratch, were rolled together and were run as an omnium so the only champion would be the best placed rider in all three events. Becky knew this would be difficult as she was up against 4 endurance riders. Things didn't start well as she punctured the rear disc on the start line of the pursuit and had to ride the rest of the meeting on a spare wheel. Despite Becky winning the sprint easily enough, the endurance events were her downfall and she eventually finished 4th overall

National Senior Track Championships - Manchester - 3rd-7th October

Becky has entered the Senior Championships for the second year running. After only gaining 4th places she is hoping to do well against the Women and hopefully help to secure her place on the ODP. Becky is riding the 500m TT on the Monday, the sprint, Wed/Thurs and the Keirin on the Friday.

Debenham 20

The Debenham 20 is traditionally run twice per season, once in Spring and again in early September. It's a quite sporting 20, with a number of short and steep hills at the start and at the finish.  The winner this time was Glenn Taylor, with the time of 45:35.  First Plomesgate rider was Pete, 9th with 50:01, followed by 11) Adrian 51:28, 14) Valerio 54:37, 18) Jim I 56:20, 25) Ron 59.36, 29) Bev 1:05:59

Bungay 10, 1st October

The EACC-promoted "10" had a reasonable turnout of Plomesgate riders, with five of us facing the timekeeper. It was a hard day, with a headwind all the way out to the turn and a tail/cross wind for the way back. Jim Ingram was the fastest of our riders, turning in a good ride in the conditions of 25:34, just ahead of Jim H (25:42), Steve (26:04) and Marshall (26:11). Ron, whose target for this season had been to break 30 mins, had a bit of a moment on the roundabout, but recovered to turn in a time of 28:12, well inside his pre-season target and a very respectable vets "plus" of over 3 minutes.
