October Club Runs

The CTC ride at Bromeswell saw two separate groups of Plomesgaters flying round the circuit, aided by the recent rain which made the sand near Butley church rideable for a change.

The Thetford ride was well attended, on a sunny, autumnal morning.  Jon Smith did a good superman impression in one of the bomb-holes, and was understandably more cautious later on the ride.  It was good to see Helen and the boys, here for a ride round the animal sculpture trail.  Maybe we should try that rather than the black run next time?

(Sorry, Steve, the photo of us basking in the sunshine didn’t get past the e-mail police).

November Club run

A change of venue for the start of the club run - this time we’re starting from the square in Wickham Market at 10am on Sunday 14th November.

Club Annual General Meeting

The club AGM will be on Wednesday November 17th at 8pm at 22 Naverne Meadows, Woodbridge.

Any nominations for officers or proposals for the agenda should be with the secretary by 10th November.

The posts of Chairman and Secretary will both become vacant this year. In order to spread the secretary work load the duties of the officers have been changed slightly. The Chairman post will retain any previous duties held by the Chairman post but in addition will take on the General Secretary duties, (membership enquiries, general enquiries, vetting of correspondence, and day to day club figure head). The Competitions and racing (apart from annual subscriptions) part of the job will now be devolved to the Secretary post. This means the Secretary post will be more like a "Competitions Secretary", duties will include race calendar, race applications (which have all been done for 2005), police forms, club event handicaps, club event duty rota........

Club Kit for 2005

It is that time of year again, time to order those items you require to represent the club next season.  I will be placing the club’s order with Impsport in early December, so please have a look below and let me know by the 30 November any items you require.  As it is coming up to Christmas dig deep and those of you who represent the club at Open events and in road races without club kit remember you are representing the club and should wear club kit.

Foxhall Fridays

Since it got too dark/too cold to use the hard track on Friday evenings at Foxhall, we've gone indoors!  The competition rollers have been brought out of retirement and have been spinning again for 4 sessions now.

On the first week, Steve showed that he'd done this before, while Julian Parker (IBC), Dan Parker (IBC,16), Neil Fellingham (IBC,15) and Blair Hutton (unattached,15) all were a bit nervous.  The race of note was probably the kilometre, with both Steve and Julian going under the minute, Dan and Neil just over and Blair at about 1:20.

The following week, the Parkers were absent because of 'cross commitments, giving a fairly intense session for Steve, Neil and Blair, with sprints over 250m, 500m, 750m, kilometre and finishing with a flying 500m. All three improved on their times of the previous week, with Neil closing in on the magic 1km/1minute.

On the 22nd Oct, there was a surprise in store. All three riders were using Steve's bike, and he'd changed the pedals from Look to toestraps. This gave Neil an extra bit of confidence, and he beat Steve in the first race, over 750m. Steve was spurred to react and won over 500 and 250, before Neil was again quickest in the flying 250m, with a time of 10.5s.

The following week, Steve, Neil and Blair were joined by school friends Chris(15) and Mike(14). While Steve set the pace, Neil and Blair continued to improve, with Blair knocking another 7 seconds off his kilometre time and Neil recording 56 seconds for the same distance, and pushing Steve hard in all the events.  Chris and Mike both took a bit of time to get used to Steve's bike on the rollers, but were soon posting some respectable times.

The roller sessions are open to all, although some children's bikes have too short a wheelbase to run on the rollers. We meet at Foxhall Stadium, near Ipswich, on Friday evenings, from 7pm to about 9pm.

Hill Climb

Nov 7th - District Hillclimb, Semer Hill, nr Hadleigh.
The club has four riders competing in this event this year - Adrian, Jim I, Steve J and Valerio.  As well as battling amongst themselves to be the unofficial club "king of the hill", they will be taking on strong teams from Ipswich, Mildenhall, Sudbury and Haverhill as they try to regain the team trophy, which we last won in 1998. If you're in the area on Sunday, come and give them a cheer - they'll need all the help they can to get up the 1 in 8 hill. The event starts at 11am, finishes about 11:30, tea and cakes available at Semer vilage hall afterwards.

Winter training

These will be running again this year, starting on Nov 21st.  The first two rides (at least) will start from Northgate Sports Centre in Ipswich at 10am and will probably be between 2 and 3 hours. If there is demand, we may mix up the rides, with some starting from Ipswich and some from another venue, possibly Snape crossroads or Saxmundham.

The aim of these rides is to build a base of "endurance" miles as preparation for next season, so the rides will be at a steady and fairly easy pace. You should be able to talk comfortably as you ride, if you can't, you need to slow down a bit.

Club Dinner

The club dinner and prize presentation has been booked for Saturday 22nd January at the Lighthouse in Aldeburgh, starting at 7:30pm.  Let Viv know if you would like to attend.  There’ll be more details in the next newsletter.
