Plomesgate Cycling Club

December Club Run

There was a good turn out for the December club run, with eight people riding in the blustery conditions.  We headed into the wind, having a café stop in Framlingham before returning to Somerfield.  Everyone had a go on Pete’s faired recumbent, racing round the car park to the entertainment of the shoppers.  I think a few of them wanted to have a go, too!

January Club run

This month’s club run is this Sunday, 18th January, starting at 10am from Somerfield in Saxmundham.

It’s a Girl!

Congratulations to Jim and Hazel.  Baby Lucy was born at 3:38pm on 10th December, weighing in at 7lb 8oz.

Winter Training Rides

These are still happening, setting off on Sundays from Somerfield in Saxmundham at 09:30, except for club run days.  The ride normally takes about three hours.

Track Training

Manchester Velodrome Debut
On the Sunday after Xmas I went along (with Becky, and Harry spectating) to a track session organised by Max Pendleton of Mildenhall CC. This was a double for me as it was my first time on the velodrome and my first time out on the new track bike. I wasn't disappointed, it was everything I expected it to be. It was fast and thrilling (better than any roller coaster) if a little tiring after 2 hours virtually non stop. Becky even got to ride with Vicky Pendleton coaching her through a flying 200m which boosted Becky's confidence immensely.

Roll on end of January when we are booked to ride the Newport track ( when Harry may have a go as well) .....can't wait.  Trevor

Talent Team Update

In December Becky got the chance to ride the new indoor velodrome at Newport, South Wales. Over the weekend some 56 youngsters from the South East, South West and Midlands honed their track skills including some sessions behind the Derny bike.

Results

A Plomesgate Win!

Big Matt unleashed his new "stealth" time trial bike on the world at the IBC Boxing Day "10" on the Henley course.

In blustery conditions, he set a time of 26:38 for the two laps, winning the event by nearly two and a half minutes, leaving the likes of Phil Hetzel, Angus and Jason Everett trailing in his wake.  It was good to hear that Pete W returned to racing here – riding his recumbent.

BC Membership

British Cycling have confirmed that they have received the renewal of our club affiliation, so any members who wish to take out or renew BC membership (with or without a racing licence) can now do so.

You will need a licence to take part in most road races and track events (hard track and grass track), as well as some mountain bike races.  Whether this is a full licence (and BC membership), or a day licence (available with or without BC membership) is up to you.

Note: You DO NOT need British Cycling membership or race licence for time trials or for the Sunday Ciclos Uno road race series at Eastway.

The membership and licence application form can be found on BC's web site: http://www.bcf.uk.com/membership/join.shtml
Membership cards and licences, when processed, will be delivered to Trevor and are not sent directly to you.
