PLOMESGATE CYCLING CLUB ![]()
Happy New Year !!
January Run
The club run on January 7th saw a good turn out for breakfast at Pauline & Hilary's before riding out till lunchtime in the bright, sunny, but chilly conditions.
Quick Review of 2000
Not wanting to dwell too long on the past I do however think that certain achievements deserve mention.
Our trophy winners certainly deserve such and it is nice to see a complete set of new names adorning the awards for the 2000 season.
Best All Rounder: Awarded to the member who returns the best average speed over 10, 25, 50 and 100 mile time trials, Jim Ingram was a deserving winner with an average speed of 23.619mph.
David Bott Memorial: A new competition which will see a new trophy going to Jim Ingram, proving his consistency during our series of evening time trials.
Fastest 10 mile: This turned out to be the closest fought contest for some years and Evert Wijnberg achieved the fastest time in our evening time trials with a record 23:48.
Vets Trophy: Evert won his second trophy with another club record of +3:45, achieved by doing 23:48 off a standard time of 27:33.
Best Improver/Handicap Trophy: Keeping it in the family Mark Broughton takes this award in yet another closely fought contest with a net handicap time of 18:30.
Djamolidan Abdujhaparov (Abdu for short) Award: Awarded to the member who crashes in the most spectacular or deserving fashion. This award is not normally announced until the presentation but I think the recipient knows who he is…….
Other notable achievements are Hilary's amazing recovery from a broken pelvis to record near personal best times for 10 miles, and set new standard bests for himself.
The club's ventures into other forms of cycle sport continued with some excellent representation and results in road racing, criteriums, grass track and mountain biking.
An extra big thank you must also go to Steve Jones for maintaining the Friday cycling nights virtually single handed. Steve has also received recognition from Ipswich BC for his diligent running of the track and roller racing right up until Christmas.

2001 Racing Handbooks
By the time you read this the order for the RTTC National Handbooks will have been submitted.
However if you require an East District Handbook then they will be available from the end of January. I will probably pick up one or two extra so don’t panic if you forgot to order one.
The East District Handbook contains details of all club events and some other events throughout Suffolk and Norfolk, priced at £1.60.
For BCF Handbooks there should be a BCF Membership Application form (see below) with this newsletter and if you require a handbook which contains listings of all BCF road, track, MTB, BMX events etc.. then tick the appropriate box and return to me: Trevor Figgitt,15 Surrey Close, Framlingham,Woodbridge,
Suffolk. IP13 9SJ.Tel: 01728 723701. Trevor.figgitt@btinternet.com
BCF Membership and/or Racing Licence
If you wish to partake in road races etc you may need BCF membership and racing licence. (See article in last newsletter).
From my description of the new categories it would seem that if you anticipate doing many road races then you need a silver membership plus a full racing licence. If you only wish to do a couple of races then it will be better to take out membership only and then purchase a day licence at each event.
Attached to this newsletter should be an application form for membership and racing licence. If you need it then complete the form and return to Trevor Figgitt without any payment, by end of January 2001.
CC Breckland New Years Day 10
Rob Cotton braved the mild, wet and windy conditions to participate in this traditional event. I never know whether to describe it as a season opener as it is really “out of season”.
It was a tailwind to the turn which saw riders hitting speeds well in excess of 30mph and a headwind grovel at sub 20mph back to the finish. Rob did well though and returned in 25:51 which put him in the top half of the finishers.
Winner was Martin Pyne in 22:22.
Forthcoming Reliability Trials
Wolsey are holding their 40th anniversary rides on 11th Feb. They start from Bredfield Village Hall with 100km riders starting at 09:00 and 50km riders starting at 09:30.
There are refreshments and off road parking at the hall. Entry.
Fee is £1.00. Further Details:Terry Pope 01394 278640
Unfortunately there is a clash here as the Colchester have their rides on 11th Feb as well.
They start from Frating Village Hall, NE of Colchester on Old Clacton Road.
50 miles in 4hrs starts at 09:30
50 miles in 3 hours starts at 10:00.
25 miles in 2½ hrs starts at 10:15
Entry Fee is £1.50 which includes a free cup of tea/ coffee and certificate to all successful finishers.
These are on Feb 18th starting from the Red Cross Centre in Stowmarket ( I think this is near the Railway Station – Trevor).
The rides are various distances and start times are 09:00, 09:30, 10:00 and 10:30.
The Ipswich rides are on March 4th from Playford Village Hall.
More details to follow when I have them.
More Stuff on Feb 11th
This is a really popular date for some reason as the East District Cycling Association are running a “testing & training day” at Morley Village Hall near Wymondham, Norfolk.
The day includes supervised Max and Sub Max Tests, Skin Fold Tests and the data will be used to provide riders with a training schedule.
The cost is £8 and there is bound to be a big demand for the limited places.
In have some entry forms but further details can be obtained from Don Saunders at 01953 604037.
