PLOMESGATE CYCLING CLUB
February
2003
Club Runs
All new members are encouraged to come along on any of the club runs. These are social rides, and whilst the whippets amongst us may race up the hills, the group generally sticks together. We stick to quiet roads where possible, so that everyone can enjoy the ride.
The next club run is on Sunday 23rd February, from the Elms Car Park in Framlingham. Coming into Framlingham on the B1116 from Wickham Market, come past the Art Shop on the left to the mini roundabout. Go right and first left into New Road. There is a motorbike cum bike shop on the right and the car park is on the right just after this.
The March club run is on Sunday 23rd March, the day after the Plomesgate ‘10’. Meet in the Somerfields car park in Saxmundham, time to be confirmed in the next newsletter.
We’ve booked into the Lighthouse in Aldeburgh for the Plomesgate prize presentation again. It’s on Sunday 16th February 2003 at 8pm, with those who are interested meeting for drinks in the Cross Keys at 7:30 ish. The dinner costs approx £17 for three courses, and the committee has agreed to pay £5 per head towards the cost of each dinner.
Please e-mail or ring Viv to confirm you will be attending by Tuesday 11th February on broughton.m@btopenworld.com or 01728 452143.
Numbers on the Tuesday night rides have swelled to four recently. Why not join us at Sizewell T at 8pm to see whether you would like to join the Plomesgate Mountain Mayhem team.
The Mountain Mayhem (known as the Red Bull) is on 21-22 June 2003, and is a 24hr relay race for a team of 4, or 5 if a mixed team (probably). Each lap takes about an hour, so it’s 1 hour cycling then 3 or 4 hours rest. If you think that sounds like fun contact Mark or Viv.
Have you paid your subs for 2003? If not, these are now due and should be sent to either Steve Jones or Trevor Figgitt. Cheques should be made payable to Plomesgate CC, and it will cost you £10 if you’re over 18, or £5 if you’re not. Trevor’s address is 15 Surrey Close, Framlingham.
Plomesgate runs two open "10"s and a "25" each year, and has also applied to hold a grass track event in August. We are only a small club, and each event needs help from members and friends to assist with pushing off, marshalling the course, selling tea and cakes, and ensuring that everything runs smoothly. To spread the workload more evenly, please can each member offer to help at two events this year.
Our first open event of the year is on Saturday 22nd March, with Hilary organizing it as usual. Please either e-mail Hil with your offers to help on hilaryhg@aol.com, or ring him on 01728 602563. All offers will be gratefully received.
The 2003 season is fast approaching and I’m sure that you want to plan your training so that you peak for the important races and time trials. Details of this year’s races can be found in local and national handbooks. Trevor has copies of the CTT (RTTC) handbook available at £4, and the East District handbook at £2.
Don’t forget that there is a new entry form for RTT time trials. For those with internet access these are available on the web – sorry, I don’t know the address.
