Coaching
John Gabriel has just completed the BCF Level 2 Cycle Coaching Course and in order for him to complete the qualification he needs to submit an amount of weekly training plans. As a result John is able to offer coaching to a few local cyclists.
The coaching will be free however he is primarily looking for committed cyclists, not necessarily racers, who are prepared to define their aims for the next 6 months and work to an agreed training plan. There may be a need for a Kingcycle (or similar) test which may have a cost element.
If you are interested in this offer contact John by email (john.gabriel@btinternet.com)or by telephone on 01394 278473.
Places will be limited.
Cyclists Do Well in BT Awards
It was pleasing to see two familiar faces appearing on a notice board in BT for their achievements in an annual competition for scientific papers.
In premier place was Stephen Thompson, a regular CTC rider and local competitor in TTs usually seen in his Lakes RC colours. Receiving a Highly Commended award was our own Dr Richard Tateson for his work on "Dynamic Channel Allocation - Fruit Fly Bristle Growth";
Well Done guys.
Eastern Region Winter MTB Races
Robert Robinson has been riding the winter series in Thetford Forest. He finished a creditable 26th in the last event in January.
Wolsey RC Prize Presentation
Well done to Hils whose speech at the Wolsey RC dinner and prize presentation went down a storm apparently. A spokes-person from Wolsey RC described the speech as different and very entertaining !
Whose Da Man ?
The man of January has got to be the great man himself, none other than Eddy Merckx.
I was fortunate enough to attend the RTTC Champions Night at Derby in January where guest of honour was the legendary Belgian. He is definitely larger than life and gave a good account of himself. I also managed to get autographs for Chris Boardman and Yvonne McGregor.
Eddy was then present at Interbike the next day signing autographs. Jim Ingram managed to fight his way through the crowds and got the "Cannibal's" autograph.
The big question that always gets asked is who was the greatest bike rider. Well if you ask me it is Eddy Merckx. He was still competing when I started racing as a lad although coming to the end of his career, but I had read and heard of his exploits as he was a household name for much of my childhood. The older guys around still tend to favour Fausto Coppi and of course I am always willing to argue about it...
