PLOMESGATE CYCLING CLUB

December 2001

Merry Christmas !! To all club members and every one else who knows us.

Editor's Farewell

Don't worry I am not planning to stay in New Zealand.yet.

Although I am staying on as secretary I have relinquished my role as editor of the club newsletter.  This will be my last newsletter and the new editorial team will be Mark and Viv Broughton.

I took over the newsletter some years ago following on from Jon Smith. I knew I couldn't produce newsletters as entertaining and innovative as those that Jon did so my aim was to try and increase the frequency to monthly and to cover just basic news and results, with the occasional light hearted element for fun.

In my position as secretary and attendee of many cycling based meetings and events, I have always been privileged to be in a position of knowing what’s going on. This year I have found it more difficult to find out what people have been up to and I would implore you to keep Mark and Viv informed of what you are doing. Don't be shy and modest about your exploits.

I am sure you will join me in supporting Viv and Mark and helping them with the newsletter.

Mark and Viv can be contacted at:-

185 Saxmundham Road, Aldeburgh.

November Club Run

Eight of us turned up at Brandon Visitor Centre in Thetford Forest eager to see what Mark had planned for us. We soon found out as we hit the 'Black Run'. Now is it called the black run because of the technical difficulty or the amount of mud ? Both I reckon.

It was a beautiful day in the Forest, with the trees still in full autumnal colours. The ride took us through and over all sorts of terrain and different types of mud. Till after a couple of ours we ended up at the Visitors Centre for refreshments. It was only when we got to this point that Mark explained that there had been a sign at the beginning of the ride stating that this route should only be attempted by experienced and technically competent riders and was not recommended for under 15s. Well you should have seen Harry Figgitt's face - but I'm only 9! You wouldn't have thought it as he and his sister spent most of the ride in the front group.

Club Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting was held in November. The club officials are the same. We have lost Evert from the committee though and we would like a replacement. So if you fancy joining the committee then contact Trevor Figgitt, who is still the secretary.

Dinner / Prize Presentation

This went very well again. This is the second year we have held the event at The Lighthouse and this year was probably better as we had the whole of the upstairs room to ourselves. A consequence of holding it on a Sunday probably. Holding it before the end of the year seems to have met with a positive response as well. So we may stick with this format.

Let the committee know your thoughts.

This years prizes were as follows:-

Fastest '10' Trophy - Evert Wijnberg
Vets Trophy - Evert Wijnberg
David Bott Trophy - Evert Wijnberg
Handicap Trophy- Rebecca Figgitt.
Abdu Award - Rebecca Figgitt.
