PLOMESGATE CYCLING CLUB ![]()
August
Club Run - Beach Barbie
No
were not having a ride where we all dress as the infamous blonde doll. As
a slight variation from the last two years we are going to keep the barbecue
and family ride theme, but this year we will start and finish at the beach.
We will meet on August 19th at 10:30am at Sizewell. We will then take a leisurely ride for a couple of hours before returning to Sizewell, where, weather permitting we will hold a BBQ on the beach. John Chalker has kindly volunteered to coordinate things, but he has asked if the carnivorous people amongst us can bring our own meat or whatever we eat. He will provide cooking facilities, salad and everything else.
The ride will be a leisurely pace so it would be a good opportunity for the long suffering "non cycling" partners to come along as well.

For The Calendar
Here
are a few forthcoming events at which there may be a Plomesgate CC presence
:-
Re-scheduled Open '10' - August 25th
Our open 10 mile TT which
was postponed in March due to Foot and Mouth is being held on the afternoon
of Saturday August 25th. The HQ is Sudbourne Village Hall. The
rules dictate that the starting list must be the same as that for the original
event so if you didn't enter that then you wont be riding this one! Hilary
Graham is the organiser and will be most grateful for any help on the day.

Open 25 Mile TT 14th July
John
would like to thank everyone who turned out on a gloriously sunny and warm
morning to support this event. Run off on the "old" version of the
course, the weather could not have been more different than last year and
this resulted in two course records falling. Fastest by almost 3 minutes was
Duncan Alexander with a new course record of 54:49, from martin Pyne in 57:47.
Fastest lady was last years National BAR Liz Milne in 1:3:14. Our fastest
rider was Jim Ingram in 1:3:13, a brilliant ride from first starting position.
Other notable Plomesgate performances were Mark Broughton in 1:9:06
and Viv Broughton, 1:14:13. Winners of the tandem event were Trevor and Rebecca
Figgitt in 1:8:59.
Off Road Time Trial
Several of
us turned up not knowing what to expect on a warm summers evening at the end
of June. Mark had spent a lot of time and effort in preparing a demanding
and technical 2km circuit at the back of Aldeburgh Golf Course.
After one "try out" lap the event was run off as a TT with riders at 1 minute intervals over 3 laps.
Fastest was Mark in 20:37 followed by John in 21:23 and Rob 22:15. Jim managed to stay upright in 24:17, which is more than can be said for the Figgitts, both Becky and Trevor surviving with cuts, bruises and nettle rash.
GHS
East District Final
I (Trevor) would just like to thank everyone
who helped out on the afternoon. Fortunately the sun shone and the only cloud
on the afternoon was Melvinder not getting to the start in time. Daniel Everett
made his journey from Kings Lynn worth while by taking an excellent first
place in 25:59 by just 4 seconds from Andrew Whelan in 26:03. Third place
went to Jonathan Janz from Wisbech. Our own Becky Figgitt won 1st
girl and 1st 13 year old, Paul Watts from Ipswich was 1st
14 year old and they will both qualify along with the first three for the
National Championship on September 15th at Sawtry, Cambs.
Evening Club Events Results
June 14th
Fortunately the wet weather held off just long enough for the riders to post their fastest rides of the year for this year. Ipswich visitor Angus was fastest in 23:12 whilst fastest Plomesgate rider was Jim in 24:52, showing his form is coming after some recent 23 minute rides on quicker courses. Chalkie really moved forward improving by a minute from last time(25:40) whilst Viv continues to improve with her fastest on this course (28:09).
June 28th
What a night. The best turn out of the year so far. It was a humid night with a stiff wind out to the turn and what about those flies !! Angus Jardine, Ipswich BC flew round in his fastest for this course(23:05), his closest challenger and best Plomesgate rider was Evert fresh from his miles in Majorca, in 23:52. Second placed Plomesgate rider was more closely fought with just 2 seconds separating Trevor (24:52) and John (24:54). Other notable rides were Becky's further improvement (31:44) giving her the lead in the handicap competition again with a net time of 18:20, and first timer Julie Grooms who did an amazing time of 34:45 on her mountain bike. Unfortunately it was Hilary who became the latest victim of the Plomesgate Puncture Plague.
July 12th
Another excellent turn out from the Ipswich Tri Club increased the numbers on a blustery and cool evening. Despite the windy conditions times were not too bad and some riders even seemed to improve. Evert continued his improvement to post the fastest Plomesgate time ever for this course in 23:31, this also gives him an unassailable lead in the vets competition with a plus of over 4 minutes. It was yet again a close competition between Jim (25:01) and John (25:00) but this time it was John's turn to push his nose in front by 1 second.
July 26th
A warm evening but slightly harder than last time with a breezy head wind on the return leg. The event was supported well again by Ipswich Tri Club. Of the five Plomesgate riders who rode solo, Evert was fastest again in 23:47 but Jim (24:49) continues to close the gap, although time is running out. Richard (26:47) produced his fastest of the season.
This was the biggest field so far this year with 21 riders and John did well coping with the late comers who don't make things easy for the timekeeper.
Racing Results
Anglia Velo Tandem "10"
On an afternoon of thunderstorms and rain. Trevor and Becky managed to dodge both to record 23:06 a pb by nearly 3 minutes !
Diss & Dist "25"
We had a team of three riding the Diss "25" on the Billingford to Bungay courseat the end of June. Our fastest on this deceivingly tough course was Jim in 1:4:46. Mark Broughton was nect in 1:7:35 and Viv in 1:17:01.
Great Yarmouth "10"
Steve was our only rider in this event at Earsham and finally found some form to finish with a creditable 24:23.
Ixworth Criterium
Steve Jones and Chris Coe both rode the West Suffolk Wheelers Criterium at Ixworth and finished together just outside 30th place from a field of 45 starters.
Wolsey RC "25"
After organising our open 25 on the Saturday, John travelled to Risby to ride the Wolsey event the following morning. Proving the extra training is paying off he returned the fastest 25 of the year so far with 1:00:59.
Godric CC "50"
Steve fell victim to the puncture plague again very early on. Jim started well going through 25 mile in 1:06 but faded badly in the second half to finish with 2:20, having not recovered from donating blood less than 48 hours before.
Other
There were only 3 evening events on the Wickham course this year and wind played havoc with most of them. However the last one calmed down enough for Jim to return his fastest on the course of 23:13, just one second better than John whose 23:14 was a pb. Steve did 24:42 and Hilary continued to improve to record 25:22.
