Where does the unusual name come from?
The name comes from from Plomesgate - the old county hundred area that covered much of the beautiful Suffolk Coastal area where the club is based. Typically our members and area of operation is the area north of Ipswich encompassing Woodbridge, Saxmundham, Aldeburgh & Framlingham but we do have members from further afield.
What sort of cycling is the club interested in?
The simple answer is all types of cycling! We have members who enjoy many different types of cycling from mountain biking to road racing, from time trialling to touring.
I’m interested in cycling competitively can the club offer me anything?
The club organises a number of time trial events each year, including a number of Open events in which riders from all over the region and even nationwide compete. This includes an open grass track event each summer. We also we have regular evening club events which are popular with our club members at all levels but we do enjoy having visiting local riders along too. The club is affiliated to CTT (Cycle Time Trials) who run time trials in the UK, so as a member you are able to enter other clubs’ open events. We are also affiliated to British Cycling with its interests in Road Racing, Track Cycling, MTB, Cyclo Cross, BMX. A number of members regularly race and often there are club training runs where you can benefit from riding with our keen riders.
Am I able to get coaching?
The club has a fully qualified British Cycling Level 2 Road and Time Trial Coach who is also currently working towards his L3 accreditation. Coaching is given to groups of riders or on an individual basis.

I’m not really a competitive cyclist is there any point in joining the club?
Most definitely! Riding on your own is nowhere near as much fun as riding with others. We regularly have rides exploring the local area and taking in stops at pubs and cafés and these will be suitably paced for all – you don’t need to be a rocket-fast racer for them. You’d be amazed at the shared knowledge of the area and of cycling of the combined membership so you’re able to pick others’ brains to help with any questions or to choose a good route.
We pride ourselves on being a small and friendly club and welcome riders of any - or even no – ability!
You may find that even if you’re not deeply competitive you may enjoy taking part in our Thursday evening club time trials as they’re a great way of keeping fit and you only have to beat your own previous time to be a winner!
