The final Club evening 10 of 1998 saw a good turn out on a pleasant evening (if a little midgey!).

As is so often the case the tandem turned in the fastest time of the evening with a blistering 23:17 Many riders pulled out a really good time to end the season. In particular Jim Ingram rode a PB on the course to finish at 25:37 so shocking himself at his speed that he turned a strange colour and looked decidedly unwell after his final sprint! He soon perked up when he saw his time though. Robert Robinson also set himself a PB on the course finishing in the mid 27’s — not bad on a mountain bike!

With the evenings drawing in the field had been set off in order so that, in theory, most people should have arrived at the finish around the same time. Unfortunately the theory almost turned out to be fact and there were three very close groups, including a sprint finish of four machines including the tandem!

The prize for the slowest time would have to go to Trevor’s Renault 5 that only just made it from the start area to a lay-by near the finish at about 10mph followed by a large cloud of black smoke. For a moment it looked like the riders would get to the finish before the watches!

It was an enjoyable event to end the season, and a big thank you to everyone who has helped with the timing, pushing off and/or has ridden the events. We hope to see you out next year! The provisional dates for next season’s evening Club 10’s are 29th April, 6th May and then fortnightly through to 26th August.

Timekeeper: Jon Smith

Pusher Off: Trevor Figgitt
