PLOMESGATE CYCLING CLUB

October 2000

September Club Run

Five riders started off from Viv and Mark Broughtons in Aldeburgh. They started off cycling in brilliant sunshine. John Chalker left at Sizewell, on his way to a toddlers birthday party. Jim was the only one on a rigid bike, and headed for home after the trip through Dunwich forest, feeling rather shaken about by the terrain. The remaining three (Broughtons plus Robert Robinson) continued to Walberswick, and back into the wind on the way home. Luckily the rain didn't start until after they returned to Aldeburgh.

Racing Results

Norwich & Region CA "10" for Tandems and Solos 9th Sept

An unfit Trevor teamed up with Pete Whelan (Wolsey RC) on this calm and humid afternoon on the Earsham course. They finished second in the tandem section with 21.08.

.A little later in the solo event Rob Cotton continued his run of 25mph rides with an excellent 23:59.

CC Breckland "10" - Wymondham

The field for this event on 16th September was seriously depleted due to the fuel crisis during the preceding week. Rob Cotton managed to make it though and was subjected to quiet roads but a really rough gusty wind. This was reflected in the times which were at least a minute slow. Rob finished with 25:00.

East Anglian CC "10" - Homersfield

A beautiful calm, warm and sunny afternoon welcomed the riders to this traditional event on the reverse of the usual Earsham course. Fastest from the club was Trevor who in his first outing as a Vet finished in 23:25 for a plus of 2:05. Next fastest and not far behind was Rob Cotton with 23:40. Steve came in with a creditable 24:27.

The event attracts many riders from France and the UK and has in the past been won by some top professionals including Chris Boardman and Jens Voigt. John and Steve did exceptionally well to finish 3rd in the vets section with 1:25:07 for the lumpy 54km course, beating the previous champions and the course record holders. The overall event was won by Daniel Nardello and his team mate from Mapei-Quick Step.
